Assertive communication in preadolescents represents an essential socio-emotional competence that supports the clear expression of needs, emotions, and opinions, with respect for both oneself and others. From a comparative gender perspective, studies indicate differences in communication styles, with girls often displaying greater emotional sensitivity and relational orientation, while boys tend to adopt more direct or instrumental forms of expression. These particularities are influenced by gender socialization, cultural expectations, and educational models, highlighting the need for tailored psychoeducational interventions to foster the development of assertive communication in all preadolescents, regardless of gender. Fear of communication in preadolescents is frequently associated with the fear of negative evaluation, social rejection, or ridicule, and is intensified by the emotional sensitivity characteristic of this developmental stage. This fear can inhibit assertive communication, leading to avoidance behaviors, passivity, or, conversely, aggressive reactions. From a comparative gender perspective, girls tend to internalize communication-related anxiety to a greater extent, manifesting restraint and self-criticism, while boys may mask fear through dominant behaviors or social withdrawal, underscoring the importance of educational and familial support in reducing communication anxiety.
