Abstract

Manifest impulsive behavior is involved in the initiation, maintenance and chronicity of addictive behavior, as well as in relapse into addiction in those who have undergone a prolonged period of substance abstinence. Impulsive behavior does not simply disappear along the scale of ontogenetic evolution, but remains a personal constant in situation where precipitating factors are also present. The dyad-impulsive behavior- substance use, seems to be a strong psychological structure that manifests throughout life, once addiction has become dominant at the unconscious level of the dependents psyche. The dimension of impulsivity is explained both by the genetic baggage inherited through personal heredity, as well as by specificities of developmental stages with both dimensions correlated with personal life experiences. Certainly, there are stages of development that are more emotionally fragile and in certain developmental frameworks, these vulnerabilities can become the building blocks of dependency formation. In this study, we aim to provide a synthesis of the studies related to this highly topical subject. Also of interest to us is identifying studies that support the fact that empirically, there is a belief that the age most protected against addictions is adulthood, which does not align with the personal reality experienced today by adults who fall into the deceptive allure of forbidden substances.
