The proposed article investigates high school students' engagement in additional tutoring activities, considering their preparation for national exams and personal development. Data collected through an online questionnaire with 17 questions and 88 responses were analyzed to highlight students' motivations for resorting to tutoring activities. The results reveal that students use tutoring to improve academic performance, focusing particularly on fundamental subjects such as mathematics and Romanian language, and to prepare for exams specific to their profile. It is also observed that students pay increased attention to personal development through learning foreign languages. The analysis also reveals a correlation between the time dedicated to tutoring, group size, and the evaluation of their effectiveness, showing that students who invest more time and participate in smaller groups provide higher evaluations for both the tutoring activity and the tutor. In conclusion, the article underscores the importance of tutoring in students' preparation and highlights the influence of specific factors on their perceived effectiveness.
